Mothers Against Maddox

Here's some crap for you. Some stupid lady started an online petition (now the most active on the site) to try to shut down the Best Page in the Universe. The site is awesome, but more importantly one guy exercising free speech. Everyone trying to shut down his site wouldn't like it if THEIR website was shut down. Anyways, this whole ordeal will never amount to anything thanks to the ACLU, but the Mothers Against Maddox group should be ashamed.

That's kind of interesting, considering how much pull maddox seems to have on the net. Someone could start a petition to stop that petition and it'd probably get a million signatures in a week.

edit: heh, just read his latest article.

Heh, I find him amusing most of the time, and would never consider shutting down his right to free speech or anyone else's for that matter. I always love reading the hate mail section of sites like his, like fatchicksinpartyhats.com , realultimateposer.com , etc.

These people get so worked up and devote so much time to shutting these sites down, and their time could be better spent educating their children and protecting them from what they think is a bad influence. Hey if you find these things on the net objectionable, try restricting your children from viewing them! There's software out there and then there is some good old fashioned parental control. Try surfing the web with your kid. Play close attention to what they are viewing. Like the TV, the internet is not a baby sitter.

There's no way they can close down that site. Heck, they couldn't shut someone's GeoShitty's homepage if they wanted to. There's no legal backup.

Remember, the First Amendment is designed to protect speech that people DON'T like. If someone tried to shut your site down, you'd be pissed, but since you disagree with this guy's opinions, suddenly it's ok to take away his right to have the site? Seriously.

By 'pull' of course, I'm referring to the style of pull Slashdot has, maddox can say things like "beef jerky is awesome, if you don't like it, you suck" and suddenly a hundred thousand 12 year olds all across the internet will be fans of beef jerky, even if they never eat it.

Of course the site isn't too be taken seriously, and I'm sure the *vast* majority of his reader-base knows this, but still, people agree with a lot of what he says, and try and emulate him or redistribute his opinions.

An example of this was when he gave the email address to someone who sent him hate mail to all of his readers and told them to send this guy emails, within like a couple days the guy said he was receiving thousands of emails a day and it was starting to fuck with his life and work.

Did you bother reading that "thread" on Maddox's site? There was a multi-email conversation between the two and the random guy kept sending Maddox emails from his work email account. Maddox had every right to post the guy's letter and email address and of course other readers scrambled to make their point.

Independent of that guys inability to grasp the purpose of the site, he was an idiot to use his work email account for that. Getting nasty emails is pretty benign compared to a bunch of people informing his bosses about his conduct that violated work policy. He should be glad he still has a job.

Moral of the story: read a site's Terms of Use and Privacy Policies.

I didn't say that it was a BAD thing, I was just using it as an example of maddox' net power. yeesh.

If *I* tried to pull the same thing, make a post on the three web forums I visit, sure, maybe 3 or 4 people would email back. But when Maddox does it *thousands* of people will send *multiple* emails.

Btw, in case you failed to realize, I have nothing against maddox, I think he's funny, clever, and I enjoy his site a lot.

    I'd like to add:

    http://www.americasarmy.com

    and:

    to the list.

    That would look like this:

This is a petition created by Polly Pureheart, founder of Mothers Against Indoctrinating Children (MAIC) - http://MothersAgainstIndoctrinatingChildren.com. The site (http://www.americasarmy.com) is run by a sick, sexist, prejudice, arrogant, hateful person by the name of George W. Bush (Commander In Chief). George W. Bush is an extremely egotistical human being and his ego grows as the number of children that get lured into his site increase. By using VIOLENT VIDEOGAMES?, they trick children into believing their hateful, biased opinions about people, the world, and life in general.

I discovered this website when I found my son, age 36 looking through a page on his site that promoted war, violence and terrorist training techniques (http://www.americasarmy.com). I was shocked to find out that my son had been going to this site on a constant basis. Ever since my son started going to this website, I noticed an increase in [X] his / [ ] her hatred towards certain groups of people and his negative attitude towards life. I no longer allow my son to connect to the internet without my supervision, because I do not want them to view such trash on the web, that promotes hate, suicide, violence, and bad-attitude.

Heh! it works pretty much with anything/anyone...i mean you can make "MothersAgainstBillGates"

But that's making me a bit worried, because given that, my Mom might start "MothersAgainstRushLimbaugh"

    -------------------------------------------------

but i mean she seriously doesn't like the show...i tuned in this morning, whlie my Mom was upstairs, and then a half an hour later she walks in the kitchen and says something like..."Why would you want to listen to this?...i mean i didn't really hear what she said, but she made me turn off the radio, and i missed about 2 hours of the show as a result(i got to listen to the last half-hour after she left for work)...
