Mac System Folder

I'm trying to install a version of the sims i downloaded, anyway, when i try and open it this appears:

Classic cannot find a Mac OS 9 system folder on the startup disk to use.

You may need to install Mac 0S 9.1 or later on your computer. To select a system folder on another volume, click open classic preferences.

I'm a bit stuck

I'm running Mac OS X 10.3 btw.

Thanks

Well, um, it means that you don't have an OS9 installation on your computer that it can find.

If you had one, you'd see a 'System Folder' at the top level of your drive, next to 'System'.

To elaborate, you must have downloaded the OS9 version of the Sims. OS9 applications are not compatible with OSX. To ease the transition to OSX, Apple introduced Classic mode, in which OSX actually runs an instance of OS9 in a sandbox. OS9 apps can then run "natively" on OSX because they're not actually running on OSX, they're running on OS9, which is running on OSX. Got it? Thing is, you still need to have OS9 installed to run OS9 (duh). You can probably install Classic/OS9 from your OSX install discs. It will put an old-fashioned OS9 System Folder on the root level of your hard drive, as Kickaha said.

A better solution is to stop pirating software and buy a genuine OSX-ready copy from Aspyr. You get a functional copy of The Sims, and they get the motivation to continue to bring games to the Mac platform.

Edit: persnickety mod edit related to hints on pirating

    Edit: that better, persnickety mod?

Edit: yeah, thanks. hey, this is kind of cool, a metathread riding shotgun inside a post... whoo!

Sorry, that was intended to trip the sarcasm sensor. It gets my gab a bit when people come in here to ask for help on how to use their obviously-pirated-though-they'd-never-admit-it software.

Remember the dude who spent a whole long thread trying to get us to help him with a pirated OSX disk image? He would never quite admit it, though.
