Help! should I switch?

I have been a Windows user (and still am) since I started using computers. I am now to the point where I am looking to buy a new computer, and I am strongly considering a Mac. Most likely an iBook or PowerBook.(something with Bluetooth, built in Airport/Airport Extreme, and a SuperDrive)

I also have a HP iPAQ pocket PC, and would obviously have to change that too. Is a Palm the only option available? I have looked at the palmOne T3, and it's pretty good, but I am not a HUGE fan of the palm OS(especially after using pocket PC) \

The reason I am considering switching is that I plan on going to school for Industrial Design, which incompases Design(using Illustrator CS) but also CAD drawing.

I am wondering what will be lesser of 2 evils for what I'll be doing.

I am also wondering how hard is it, and/or is it neccesary to de-fragment, do a disk-cleanup, un-install programs, do system upgrades(RAM, video card etc).

I hope this isn't too much, and I hope someone can help.

Thanks

That might help you sync a Pocket PC with a Mac.

As for the other stuff, it's mostly straightforward. I would recommend you inquire with your school about Mac compatibility though. If the department you want to get a major from says Macs won't fly then don't hurt yourself.

    You don't need to de-frag.

You probably wouldn't need to do a disk-cleanup, but there are many utilities free and otherwise at www.versiontracker.com.

To uninstall, pick up the icon and put it in the trash.

System hardware upgrades are basically identical to Windows PCs.

    Enjoy!

Thanks for your info, that'll really help if I get an Apple. What are some utilities that you suggest to buy/download. I'm trying to set up how much it'll cost to switch over.

    Thanks

Does some auto cleanup and only $8.99!

Actually I'm a little out of touch with the shareware these days, but it's always been strong for the Mac.

As to whether you should switch.

    NO QUESTION, SWITCH NOW.

I made the move a little over a year ago, and I know have 5 Macs in my life and I'm infinitely happier and more productive.

Despite working in a TOTALLY windows environment (yep, I'm the one out of 3,000 in the US that uses the Mac platform exclusively) I've yet to find ANYTHING I can't do BETTER on my Mac.

I wouldn't go back to Windows for any amount of money in the world. In fact, my boss jokes that he would punish me by taking away my Macs (G5, Powerbook) if I piss him off, but then realizes that it would make me less productive. People are amazed by what I can accomplish with the beauty of a Mac and Panther.
