Apple credit card

I just read a story that said that Apple gets 4 cents from each iTunes sale.

Credit card companies get 25 cents, artists get 8 cents & the labels get the

lions share.

Why doesn't Apple get it's own credit card or co-branded card? (An example

being the Shell credit card for gas.) If Apple had their own credit card they

could get a bigger piece of the pie, plus they could offer points toward

Apple products & services.

If the 25c is true, that's a lot more than is usual for credit cards - usually around 2-4%, I guess because of the processing fee for micro-sales.

As to getting a co-branded card - Some of the money charged as transaction fees goes to the institution issuing the card - i.e. Apple would have to partner with someone like BankOne, the rest goes to Visa or MasterCard, so there would be no reason for Apple to do it other than loyalty (which is why Shell etc do it). Since they already have most of the marketshare, they don't need tools like that to build loyalty - they already have it :-)

25 cents is the minium Credit card charge I believe for most cards.

I think Apple has a Credit Card now. At least they have a credit account, i assume that means you get an Apple branded card as well.

Apple should really just charge your card once a month. It would be cheaper for then and then we wouldn't keep getting all these stupid 99 cent charges on our credit card statements.

I miss my old Apple Citibank card. A reward of 5% on every purchase could be earned and applied to Apple products.

Apple does in fact have a credit card now, through Juniper Bank. Any opinions on that bank? Experiences? Hmm, looks like they were picked up by Barclays PLC recently...

I know Apple Loans were handled through MBNA, which disheartened me.

Yea, I'm not a MBNA fan either. They screwed up my credit report which delayed me buying my first condo by 3 months.

I thought you could choose to pay once every 24 hours on iTMS ? That way, if you buy 10 songs over a period of 24 hours, you get charged once, and US 9.99, where VISA/Master Card takes their share (4% or 25c), which in this case would be 39 cents...

Do Apple charge your for each 99cent song you buy ? I though they only charged at the end fo their "business day" for all their customers ?

I guess if you only buy one song, they'd have to charge the smaller amout of 99 cents to your card...

Does the iTMS have a "prepaid" option ? That would work better for me (not that im in a countly where I can use it anyways), but I'd rather put down 50 bucks up-front and then being told when my credit is gone, and have to option to top up my account or being charged directly for the current sale...

    Just joining the MBNA hate-fest.

When buying my Powerbook, they didn't take a payment in April, and then tried to make up for it by taking two in September. Of course, I didn't have enough cash for two at once, so it bounced, and both my bank and MBNA charged me, which then caused more payments (to other things) to bounce...

Yeah, I know I should have handled my finances better, but MBNA should also haev warned me that they were (for no discernible reason) going to take April's payment out 5 months after it was expected to leave.
