What is the appropriate syntax?

    kill pid

    or if it's stubborn

    kill -9 pid

    so, for example

    kill 12782

    kill -9 12782

Use the kill command. Open the Terminal and type 'man kill' to read all about it.

EDIT: I don't want to bother you, but do you know a neat cmd, which covers

all build-in hardware within the computer?

For Example: "top" covers all active processes, is there something similar for "hardware"?

I do know "hostinfo" already, but this cmd is very basic

    thank you again.

Get yourself one of those good Unix books out there. O'Reilly has a few specific to OS-X.
