iBook & HD install under warranty: How-To?

My G3/800 (last o' the G3's!) iBook still has a few months of warranty left on it, but my hard drive is extremely cramped. So much so that I can forsee swap eating up every last bit (pun intended) in the not-so-distant future.

How does one go about getting a new drive installed (I'll supply my own; don't want to pay anyones markup)? The closest Apple store is three hours away, and I'm not too keen on my local CompUSA.

I am going to Denver in 1.5 months, and will be ~8 blocks from the Apple store there. Can I just carry the drive & iBook in, and ask them to install it for me?

Thanks for any help. I don't understand why they didn't stick the drive under the keyboard like my old Pismo, so that any Joe Schmoe could do it.
