Loud iMac G5 Fans & Sleep issues

My college just got three new 20" iMac G5's. We set one up, but the fans seem to be infinitely stuck on high. They are really loud... sounds like a vaccuum is on or something. Also, it won't wake from sleep, won't restart, or shutdown. It has to be forced to shutdown to turn it back on to get it out of sleep, or restart, or just to turn it off. That makes me angry. It was cloned to have other applications put on it, not sure if that is the problem with the sleep and shutdown and restart stuff, but I guess I might see if it is like that if we do a clean install. The fans though, wow, they are really loud, unacceptable. It needs to be fixed.

Apparently the iMac ships with a more advanced version of 10.3.5 than the one at Apple Downloads. Starting the computer from other build of the OS rather than the one that comes with the iMac will result in the OS being unable to control the fans therefore they will be permanently on high.

Erase and re-install the OS from the discs that came with the iMac.

I just booted mine from a FW drive... holy shit. Just like the Power Mac G5s, the fans go to 100% when you do this.

I thought it was going to blow up!
