Taking apart iBook

I am having a display problem with my iBook G4 800 12" and it is not covered under Apple Care. I realize that it is very expensive to replace the screen. I think I am going to use this as an excuse to upgrade to a PowerBook. My iBook still works and I can display on a TV using my s-video adapter. I was thinking I could use it as an iTunes server on my stereo and use bluetooth to control it. The iBook does not work in closed lid mode and I was wondering if it is possible to detach the screen and put it back together and still have it work? Any info would be appriciated.
