Does regular PC3200 CL3 ram for a PC work in a G5 iMac?

I was thinking about possibly getting a G5 iMac, if I could use this 512mb of ram that is just sitting on my desk collecting dust instead of buying more from apple, that would be great.

Yep, you can use your RAM.

The iMac G5 uses standard 184 pin PC3200.

That's what you've got, so slap it in there!

Awesome, I have 2 sticks of 256mb so I guess I would only be able to use one of them, but still 512mb total is better than only 256mb. 512mb should be enough.

Yes, you only have two RAM slots in the iMac G5.

One of those slots is occupied by the 256MB that it came with, so you are right, with what you have 512MB is the most you'll get in there.

512 is fine, but get more in the future if you can.

OS X likes lots of RAM and so does iMovie, iDvd, etc.

Congrats on your iMac. They are nice machines.

I put 2 sticks of this RAM into my new 20" iMac G5 and haven't had any issues at all. I ran the ioreg command and the results show the iMac working on a 128 bit buss to RAM. Newegg says this is CL3 RAM and the manufacturer's website ( www.patriotmem.com ) says this as well.
