G5 Firmware Update

I was updating the firmware on my G5 1.6 and the frigging thing is dead. When I power up I get a flashing blue power light then nothing happens until a few minutes later when the fans start kicking hard. I'm out of the ninety day phone support and would really like to avoid paying 49.00 bucks for a problem that Apple themselves called so any advice would be appreciated. The phone support guy I talked to said it was probably software and there were things to try, but he couldn't tell me what they were without paying up so I'm all ears.......

If you can't boot off your OSX DVD, your firmware update went bonkers. The only way to fix that is to replace a chip on your motherboard. Firmware updates are the most serious updates you can do to your computer. If anything goes wrong, you are left with a useless computer that software can't fix.

call your nearest apple store and grill them for information. Before I got applecare and I went out of the 90 days telephone I would call the genius bar personelle and ask them questions... it's like free apple support...

Luckily I still have two weeks of hardware warranty left. I'm just irritated that I'm going to have to pay to try and solve a problem that apple caused. I've never even had to call Apple support before except for when I bought my firs mac and it was doa.

Ok, I'm officially a dumbass. When I replaced the original apple ram as specified by update notes I used the wrong slot for one of them.

    Lucky bastard!

I messed up the firmware on a PC once and it was a chore to fix.

On a side note, I never knew you had to remove the RAM to do a firmware update. I didn't. (Is that why I am having strange problems???) \ What does it do?

The instructions for the update said to remove any third party ram and only leave in the ram that came with the computer.
