iChatAV Video Problem

I did a search of these forums and did not find a similar problem.

The video feed from my DV camcorder is reversed (mirrored?) in the iChatAV video window. Is this normal? Does a connection mirror it again back to normal? I did notice that taking a snapshot for the picture icon is normal however.

In other apps that I have tried, there has been no problem at all. Other apps: iMovie; GCam, iCamShare.

Camera: Canon Optura XI

CPU: G4-400

Thank you, and please pardon my ignorance in this area.

iChat is doing this to HELP YOU. It shows you your mirror image as that's what you are used to. When chatting however, other users see the straight-through image.

If it wasn't mirrored, you'd raise your right hand and you'd see your "left" hand raise in the video window. Weird.

If you want to record a standard window, just use any recording app. iChat is the only one mirroring the image and again, that's only when you view it.

Doesn't seem like much of a help. I can see it helping as far as being in the centre of the picture. But it is a tad confusing .

    Thanks for the advice.

People are much more used to seeing themselves in mirrors than they are in video feeds.

The iChat window lets you check your appearance, etc, as you're *used* to, before initiating that video conferencing call. The other person sees you as you'd expect, and pointed out above.

Trust me, for the average user, it's a big help.
