I need some advice on Filemaker Server 7 advanced. Is it a product that finally competes with some of the more robust database applications running over the web? Has anyone had any experience yet?

Filemaker is offering a migration bundle package for previous Filemaker Pro 5/6 unlimited users for $999. Does anyone know what other resellers might offer this package other than Filemaker and Apple? Looking for the best price.

Thanks for any info.

disclaimer - i havent used filemaker

this is what i gathered from their web site specs

looks like its limited to 100 connections max

    or max 250 users

i have heard their publishing stuff is easy to use

if you know zilch about web coding

so this might be a good fit

for a free db my pick would be postgresql

which is close in features to oracle (i am an oracle

dba) however you would have to code the website yourself

    which shouldnt be too hard

theres also tons of frameworks out there that you can

resuse. what exactly are you trying to build ?

as for robustness i would not consider mysql/access/filemaker to be "robust"

    or mssql either

again depends on your implementation & how

valuable your data is to you

if you are more specific in what you are trying to

do then i can write a lot more info on what to look

    for featurewise in a db

Without some more information to give a sense of scale, no one can really answer your question. If you are looking to run slashdot on FileMaker, then you are barking up the wrong tree. If your site gets a few hits a day, then FileMaker will handle it easily.

The other consideration is how good you want the site to look. If you are going to be using a web designer, then their tools (dreamweaver or golive) won't be of much use (someone who knows their stuff can change that... but we are talking in generalities).
