Self-destruction of 17"powerbook?
Okay, two problems that have reared their ugly head, one quite unhappy. For no apparent reason the entire screen starts to show scrolling letters and numbers, kind of like a virus? There are a bunch of numbers in two groups that repeat themselves, first over my desktop picture then the screen goes black/blank except for the letters and numbers scrolling. Even the menubar at top goes away. The message that keeps repeating itself along with the numbers(a few which follow the message) is
Backtrace:
backtrace terminated- frame not mapped or invalid: 0x801D28C
or same Backtrace:
backtrace terminated-unaligned frame address OxOo3362B8
when this happens, the cursor arrow stays on screen but no trackpad or keyboard or mouse movement/input. No force quit, etc. The power button does not do anything unless holding it down until restart. Computer restarted and seems fine. This has happened once before, but I ran disk permission repair, check all that stuff and it was fine and thought it went away. Same pattern both times, just don't remember particulars about the numbers/messages scrolling first time. Help me! I have no idea what this means other than something with the display? I wasn't doing anything crazy either time it happened. Had safari open, browsing web both times. This time I just finished downloading and installing new version of AIM.
Simpler but annoying issue. Everytime I ever run disk repair I get the same repair, Every single time, even back to back. Wondering if it means anything-
Repairing permissions for ?Macintosh HD?
Determining correct file permissions.
We are using special permissions for the file or directory ./System/Library/Filesystems/cd9660.fs/cd9660.util. New permissions are 33261
The privileges have been verified or repaired on the selected volume
Sorry for being so long winded. But help!

Thanks for help with second problem, someone know the first one? Any ideas? Please!
Saw this thread the other day and meant to reply.
OK first up, don't think I'm going to tell you the answer because I'm not (don't wanna get your hopes up).
But I had the same thing happen a few weeks back (12" PB, 1Ghz, 10.3.5). All I did was click in the menu bar to disconnect from the internets, when screen went straight to black, really fast scrolling of lots of mumbo jumbo. Did I try to read it? No! I freaked. OMG, OMG, OMG, what's happening......
So I shut down using the power switch, restarted, heart in mouth. Everything's normal. Repair permissions blah, blah, blah. No problems since.
So my (typical) response is to go into complete denial about it. In fact, I'd completely forgotten it even happened until I read your post. If it happens again, I'll pay more attention and we can compare notes.
At least, you can take comfort in the knowledge you are not alone.
