John Peel, RIP

John Peel died of an apparent heart attack while on holiday with his wife in Peru. I don't know if too many people here will be familiar with the cult British radio DJ, but if anyone else grew up listening to him and the bands he championed they'll be as aware of his importance to music and as saddened to read of his death as I was.

RIP Peelie.

In Europe he was actually more than just a cult figure. He gave some of the eighties best British bands (Killing Joke, Siouxsie and the Banshees, too many to list.) their first radio play on an influential show.

    RIP indeed.

Wow, how sad. So few real tastemakers left in this world.

John Peel opened my ears to so many different types of music when i started listening to him in 1978. I was thirteen and his show between 10 and midnight was the only thing to listen to. So many amazing bands recorded sessions for the show, often beating the record company version, if they were signed that is. I'm rambling, what a great man and a sad, sad loss. Peace.
