Does anyone know when AI started, and was it the first such apple forum or did others, predate it? thanks

    Before AppleInsider, MacNN had a section called "MacNN Reality", which reported on rumors, etc. This became AppleInsider around 1998 or so, IIRC. Some of the classic threads from that era include I know real C2 spec !!! featuring kormac (and variants), ! ! ! Apple Insider Community Picture ! ! !, and of course my favorite thread , QT - How do I save a stream - I.E. the MacWorld NY stream. Some sort of problem in 2000/2001 (?) caused a great blackout that lasted several months.

    i remember before the horribilty of the blackout, when the front page had that RETAIL STORE INFO and shtuff.
