I wonder how the Sony 23" display:

<a href="http://www.sonystyle.com/is-bin/INTERSHOP.enfinity/eCS/Store/en/-/USD/SY_DisplayProductInformation-Start;sid=EfM9oSVpH2A9hxii0gg3qmplfInrSak1ef0=?Cat alogCategoryID=ZUYKC0%2eNShoAAADxA%2e9RHlfJ&Produc tID=GhgKC0%2eNlTUAAADxYTVRHlfN&Dept=cpu" target="_blank">Sony display</a>

compares to the Apple HD Cinema Display.

It's also quite a bit less expensive than the Apple display, it can be purchased for quite a bit less than its MSRP of $2999.

Perhaps this will force Apple to lower the price of its display.

    thank you, thank you, thank you

    i asked the same question in the other thread. i just went to the electronics store during lunch and asked the salesman to play a dvd movie on the sony and then on the mac. for the most part skin tones and other colors looked better on the mac though the sony was using a vga connection and the mac was obviously using adc.

    other than that i saw no ghosting or streaking on the sony. they seem to be pretty evenly matched.

    now if i could only get someone to show me quake III or Unreal 2003 on the sony i could buy the thing already!!! <img src="graemlins/hmmm.gif" border="0" alt="[Hmmm]" />

    I'd take the Formac 2010 (I think) over that sony any day. And, it's got better features then my CD, a 600:1 contrast ratio. It's only 20" but for $1700, can't beat that.

    A cursory glance at the two product specs reveals that they're almost totally identical, with a few advantages apparently going in the direction of the Sony (I'm assuming that the view angle of '1700' is actually 170 degrees, and the temperature sign got mistyped as a zero). Sony says nothing about color accuracy, but that could mean anything. I really would not be surprised if they're using exactly the same part.

    So the Cinema HD's got some competition. I agree, that'll probably bring its price down.

    It is also important to point out that a manufacturer's claim of a 600:1 contrast ratio is ridiculous It's fascinating how some of the marketing people manage to come up with such creative numbers...

    Two good things about the SONY

    1) Cheaper

    2) Accepts Dual inputs (DVI and VGA)......which Apple's doesn't have unless you pay $600 for the stupid ADC switch box

    WRONG oh KidRed! The Dell 20" 1600 x 1200 DVI/VGA/Video 2000SP for $1,119.99 is now the price point leader. 20% off the $1400 list already. Hold your nose and get the DELL. It's made by a Swiss manufacturer BTW. 350:1 contrast. Other excellent specs. At Dell Site. <a href="http://accessories.us.dell.com/sna/productdetail.asp?customer_id=19&sku=320-4105"; target="_blank">http://accessories.us.dell.com/sna/productdetail.asp?customer_id=19&sku=320-4105</a>;

    Just discovered their 20% off deal was over Monday. But it's still a better deal than the Formac @ $1400. And you can always wait for DELL to resume the sale again Thanksgiving Weekend.
