What is it with exporting jpgs that contain alot of red. It just goes horrible no matter what quality setting I use. Is there a problem with red in jpg's? Can I get round it?

Thanks

Uh, what software are you using, and what are the settings/options for saving as a .jpeg? What are the images like, are they in acertain color space or is there another predominant color in them?

Im using Canvas9 and a little photoshop, I just made a webpage which was using red as a base color with red gradients from pink to maroon, mostly red though, I saved the page as a .bmp and then exported sections of it as jpg to tabelize. It goes all fuzzy, noisy when the slices are red, but if I use Hue/saturation to 'colourize it to any other base color it comes out fine.

I vaguely remember people having problems with reds from a few years ago, but cannot find out now what the problem was.

Actually, are there issues with using PNG's with browsers? If I save this red page as a PNG, it looks fine and the file size is about half.

Im targetting IE, Netscape, Firefox and Safari.

IE doesn't handle PNG files properly IRC, but all other browsers do.

edit - maybe you should try running at them really fast and see if the red goes away.

I've only noticed IE to have a problem getting the alpha channel (transparency) on a PNG drawn correctly. Everything else seems to work fine. Obnoxious problem though... and it even affects the latest windows IE versions.

IE on the Mac does .png's just fine. Alpha transparency and all. It's IE for Windows that can't properly display .png's.

Big suprise. Why would Micro$oft do anything they haven't decreed as "industry standard"?
