Hi,

Does anyone know of any mac software that can change the region setting

of a dvd in order to play it on a dvd player with the U.S. region?

I was checking out fast dvd copy on their website but I don't think it can

change the region.

The reason I'm asking is that I'm looking to get some american movies that

have italian dubbing for my parents this christmas. (comedies mostly.)

Either that or does anyone know of a cheap dvd player that can play all

regions?

edit:

I found a link for dvd's at:

http://www.internetbookshop.it/dvd/h...e.asp?shop=920

I saw Elf on dvd but it's in the pal format. If there is a dvd player that can

play all regions would I need a pal format tv or would the player convert it

so I can watch the movie on my parents ntsc tv?

I found the Akai 5851 Region Free DVD Player on amazon & it has a

converter in it so you don't have a problem with using an NTSC tv. Has

anyone used a region free dvd player? The reviews were polar opposites.

Either people love these players or they totally suck.

    You can start here:

You change the firmware in the drive then use some utilities to set the region.

Or you could buy a region free drive. They seem cheap and easy to get now. Just google the topic and a bunch of ads appear.

I just bought the dvd player off of amazon because it was so cheap ($70).

That software costs $100. The only problem that I have now is that italian

dvd website. I tried purchasing Something about Mary, Old School, & The

Green Mile but when I tried checking out it would empty out the basket. I'm

pretty sure I'm pressing the right button but everything is in italian.

I just got the Akai DVDP5851 MULTI REGION CODE FREE DVD Player MP3/CD

from amazon! This thing works perfectly. The picture isn't warped or weird

looking. It cost me $79 (shipping & handling included.) I was testing it out

with the dvd's that I purchased & they all looked & sounded fine.

The zipper scene from Something about Mary is even funny in Italian. Word

of warning though; hook the dvd directly to the tv. I originally hooked it up

through the inputs in front of my vcr but I guess the copy protection makes

the picture quality ocillate from perfect to crap.
