Is Mac Radeon 8500 able to power 30" Cinema Display?

I just read something very interesting on the French Mac enthousiast site Macbidouille. Someone there is saying that it is possible to drive a ViewSonic VP2290b with a Mac Radeon 8500 with resolutions up to 3840x2400. They claim that although the original ATI for the 8500 specs didn't mention such a high resolution, upgrading the drivers of the 8500 to the latest version would actually allow this card to perform this trick. As anyone tried this to drive a 30" Cinema Display, or does anyone else think it's feasable?

I'd highly doubt it, I don't really understande what this hack entails; is it just using both ports on the card?

It's really tough to tell. It looks like this thing has two dvi connectors that have to be connected. See this review:

Now, if the "dual dvi cable" that ATI refers to means the two cables from the Viewsonic, then I interpret it as "connect the primary cable, we're going to do some trickery to drive it off one port". In that case, maybe they've done something in the firmware do drive the full DVI port.

I claim no way to know if this is what it means, or if it will work in a 30" Cinema display.

No. If you're going to shell out big bucks for the 30", get a real video card.
