Why hasn't my PowerBook 1GHz, Superdrive shipped?

I ordered the PB the day they were announced, and when I log into my Apple Store account, it indicates that the order is still "Being Assembled." Are there any estimates on ship dates?

It's only been 2 weeks since it's release - didn't the Apple Store have 3-4 weeks as it's estimated time to ship?

    Patience, grasshopper.

Unless you ordered within the first hour, your chances of having gotten yours shipped by now is virtually nil.

Just think, by the time you get it, it will be roughly a month more outdated than the day you ordered.

Time for Apple to take a look at solving its supply problems. I guess they can always have a price bump is sales are going a little too well.

If you ordered a combo drive model, you would have had one by now. But the superdrives are in low stock, or may have actually not even shipped to Apple yet.

I know people who have their combo models already.

Or even if you ordered it within the first ten minutes (like myself)...

Please, please, please, Mr Email Man, send me a shipment notice!

Edit: I ordered the 1GHz SD model

I know 2 people that had theirs shipped the other day. I know the Palo Alto Apple Store had a handful available, first come first serve last week.

i have one, and i upgraded from an 800...here are my comments in response to the above:

    1.faster/slower than the 800 ?

    Duh. faster.

It feels a lot faster, and I can see a bug difference in rendering. I'd say it is 25-35% faster than the 800, in the way it feels day-to-day...not scientific, but there you go.

2.heat issues ? (the 800 runs hot when stressed)

No more heat than the 800--in fact, they seem to be getting better and better at handling it. Feels cooler than my 800, even when working hard.

    3.any paint issues ?

None, and the finish has been changed a little--sturdier. Time will tell.

    4.what heatsink/pipe is he talking about ?

Take off the keyboard or the bottom and you'll see it--big-ass piping, baby!

5.airport reception better or still crappy ?

About the same, I expect--No big change for me, but I was so much happier with what the 800 got me, I'm not looking for much more.

6.battery life better or worse ?

Better for me, with a new battery, though a lot has to do with downclocking--it goes down to 667, same as the 800's, and has a larger battery, so as long as you aren't burning DVDs it seems to last longer. I'm getting 3 1/2, 4 hours.

7.startup time better or worse ?

Erm...better. Again, a bit duh...but this is not a huge concern for me. If this bugs you too much, turn journaling on.

    8.aqua layer faster/slower/same ?

Not certain what this means, but the GUI and everything is about 25%-25% faster, so it is faster.

    ...

is it worth the upgrade? Depends. i resold my Ti for a great price, to a friend, and suddenly it made sense. Your situations may vary immensely.

Isn't the battery also very slightly different than the previous version. Not externally, but is it now rated a few watt-hours higher?

I ordered using ADC (student developer here) and my order was placed at 6:45AM PST on Nov 6th, and mine STILL says being assembled. I'm quite offended to hear that bums off the street are walking into Apple Stores and buying 1GHz SuperDrive tibooks, and people who ordered early are waiting weeks and weeks. When someone who ordered via ADC recieves theirs I hope they tell us here!

I do believe that resellers are getting stock first, then online store orders are being filled. We got a pair of them in at my location this week (both were already pre-booked, though). I can't get any more in for another week or two, though.

Rumor has it that Apple ships late to people who regularly post on Rumor messageboards.
