Hi, this is my first post here! (woo-hoo)
I am, as many others out ther, dying to get an iMac G5. But I won't have the money for it until January. So, i was wondering: Do you think at the MWSF, Steve will announce iMacs with lower prices?
Thanks in advance! :-)

I think this is unlikely (historically speaking) Apple is the industry leader in high margins. And welcome to AI!
How far down it goes is another question, because of the eMac.
The question should be settled by next spring, because spring is the peak educational buying season, and the eMac is aimed at education. Once we know where the eMac is going, we can know how far the iMac can go. The first price change for the original iMac went from $1299 to a barebones $1199 and a more full-featured $1399, which as Wired noted, actually increased the effective price, while lowering the entry price. Apple might try that again, since it worked last time.
Part of it depends also on demand. As long as Apple is selling them as fast or faster than they can build them, they have no incentive to drop the price at all. They might try a rebate for the holidays ($100 off!) just to test the $1199 price point and see what happens.
However, right now the iMac is a solid value at $1299. If that's a little too rich for you, have you looked at the eMac?
this is a perfect example of people not being proactive and wanting other people to solve their problems for them...
Might also watch MacMall, etc for deals with extra RAM, etc.
I do however agree with ipodandimac. If you really want something, why not save up just a little longer? The wait will be more than worth it. The iMac G5 is a wonderful computer.

Hardly. Your statement correctly describes something like government welfare, but in this case the original poster is indeed being proactive by taking part in our capitalistic society by being a savvy shopper and looking for the best deal. Who likes to spend more when they don't have to?
My weekends and holidays are being taken so I can make more money to pay for an iMac. Don't give me that speech of yours, 'cause it's just not fair. You should take a moment before start judging people!
And everyone else, thanks for the replys!! You've been very helpful!!

Hey, ipodandimac, for your information, I'm working like a dog since august to get a Mac, and I'm sorry I don't make tons of money per week!!

Hey, for your information, I worked like a dog to afford the system in my signature (below), so i know how you feel. my point was just that after saving 1000 bucks, why not just work a little more and try a little harder to get a better system sooner? its jsut a matter of priorities i guess--i'm jsut tired of people complaining about apple's prices being "just" outside their price range and waiting 6 months to make a purchase when they could have just worked more during that time and gotten the computer sooner.
You could've talked to me in a civil way instead of lableling me as the:

I just got here, okay! Sorry if I angered you, but that was not my purpouse. I was asking for help from the more experienced ones who have more years of Apple than I do.
Seriously, I don't want any trouble, man...
In any case, Amazon has a $50 mail in rebate on the $1299 iMac, and doesn't charge tax to most states. So, if you just wanted the stock model, that's one option.
