The 10.3.6 update installed a folder called Apple in my HD/Library/Application Support directory. Inside the Apple folder is a folder called System Image Utility and inside that is a item called SIUExtras.pkg.

I double clicked and it installed some kind of Disk application in my applications folder and no knowing what it was I deleted it. When I went to reboot I got to the gray startup screen and no further. Booted using my FWHD Backup and found another folder installed in the HD/System directory. Deleted that folder and everything returned to normal.

What the heck is SIUExtras and what is it for?

Thanks,

Doug

It is something that you should not have deleted without knowing what it is.

"System Image Utility" doesn't sound like something to play with if you have no idea what it does. That general rule applies to everything outside your Home directory.

OTOH, it's annoying that Apple has no documentation, on the system or on their website, for what "System Image Utility" is or does.

It installs /Applications/Utilities/Startup Disk.app, and /System/Library/Installation/CDIS/ which includes resources for what looks like a kiosk mode. A modified /etc/rc.cdrom leads me to believe it also helps lock that down.

I could be wrong though, but it looks like it's a combo for labs or kiosks.
