safari wont download anything!!!

whenvever i go to a site to download somthing, weather it be download.com or just to mozilla to get firefox, i will click on the download link, for a moment i will see the url with the application at the end of the line in the address bar, but then it will kick me right back to the page where i was when i clicked 'download now' -- its very aggervating... does anyone have any suggestions?

    You dont have speed download or similar getting in the way do you?

    not that i know of- nothing else is running that should be interfering with it...

    Are you trying to download to a folder you do not have write permissions on?



    My university once handed out hundreds of iBooks set up like this, so nobody could download anything on them.
