iPod photo - why bother?
As far as I can see, the only way to ge photos onto your iPod photo is to plug it into your Mac (unless you use a 3rd party add-on, like a Belkin car reader or something). Surely this is a bit pointless - who really needs to carry their photos around that much?
In my opinion, the USB port on the iRiver devices is a far better idea. It allows you to connect your camera in and download your photos, a feature that would be genuinely useful. Why did Apple not do this?!

Another vote for USB-to-go technology implemented into (all) iPods. I'd like to know how this affects battery life, though.
Maybe a third party (Sendstation, for exaple) could jump in and make a small dock-connector USB-host-adapter. The funcionality certainly is there (Medion made a PortalPlayer OS based player that included a USB-port, and I bet the Belkin devices work the same way).
