In a recent advert I saw in a magazine (Observer Music Monthly - 12/12/2004) AMD are showing off their new processor with a PowerBook G4 titanium. Does that class as misrepresentation (implying you can get this computer with an AMD), what do you think Apple will do about it?

They did a good job photoshopping the apple symbol out.

The same commercial is all over Barcelona right now...

It happens all the time. Its good to have well placed art directors with good taste in computers. I think AMD, Intel and MS hates it every time it happens. And I think Apple see the flattering dimensions in it.

But surely it's misrepresenting the public. The ad implies you can get a fast computer using AMD and windows that looks that good. It's blatant false advertising. In the UK the laws are quite strict, it only takes a few complaints to get ads banned!

I agree 100% with that add. The way to go securely is with a powerbook. It's just common sense.

looks like a stock image to me.

so my guess is that apple won't do anything, as there's no law against using stock images.

but telling people that using the new amd processor will result in having a secure computer is indeed false advertising.

I couldn't access the ad but maybe this explains it...

AMD boards based upon the nforce4 chipset are just now being released. The nforce4 has stateful packet inspection via it's built in firewall. I suppose that could be considered to make it more secure.

The Powerbook G4 has been a default model for advertising for years. Just about every third-party gadget dealer uses it. Linksys, Earthlink, and many others just clone-stamp the logo.

Apple can't fit a G5 in but AMD manages to get Athlon 64 in.

If you consider it the ad is correct... "The way to go securely" ~ buy a mac

Way To Go AMD, you finally figured it out!

My best guess: The ad agency used stock photos, and don't know one computer from another. I know agencies I've worked for have done some creative photoshoping. Including pasting windows screenshots onto what was obviously a mac monitor.

The command-key (Apple key) is the clincher.

    Sue away, Apple

Can I be an expert witness?

Wish I would have snagged it ~ I was on a United Airways flight last night and in their air magazine they had an add with a lady holding a laptop (clearly a powerbook 15)... the screen had a shot of windows on it instead of macOS. It was for some PC software company, but the computer was no doubt a mac.

What I don't get is why are they so stupid? If they can make an add, and airbrush it, why don't they know the difference between a Mac and a PC!? Or perhaps since it's an add agency, they only had Macs? But seriously how hard is it to find a Windows notebook. Meh. Makes us look good.

The shapes of the vents on the back were enough of a giveaway.

The entire thing is a give-away. No PC company makes a laptop that thin and beautiful.
