OSX's UPS manager - Unkown?

I am using the native OSX UPS manger in Energy Saver to manage my UPS. The batter Icon displays the percentage as 100%, but when I switch to time remaing view, it says "Unknown until full". Is it possible to get it to figure out the time? Do I have to disconnect my UPS and make it run off the batter to get a figure? Thanks in advance for any assistance!
