OS X stability + superdrive

ok I have two questions



I know OSX isn't hacked as much as windows XP, but should I still get a firewall and stuff?



and



I bought some 8x speed dvd+r's and the superdrive is 4x right? do I need to get firmware to get it to work, or are these dvd's sufficient

    You shouldn't buy a firewall unless you own some large business and don't want to rely on OS X's own built-in firewall, which is very good by the way.



    The SuperDrive in PowerMac ix 8x I believe, but in all others its 4x. I use the 4x and I never bothered to check the rest, so I wouldn't know this.
