Progressive Scan DVD question...

Okay, I have both a PS2 and an Xbox. Currently I use the PS2 for viewing dvds becuase I couldnt justify buying the xbox dvd kit. But I am about to buy an hdtv and wanted to know if the xbox has progressive playback? I have read conflicting accounts whether it is or not. One post said the xbox needed to be modded to support progressive scan. I'll probably end up getting the dvd kit anyway when I get the HD AV pack so I can play games in HD. But what is the truth in this matter?

    no mainstream dvd's are HD-quality right now. no amount of adapters, progressive scans, or otherwise is gonna change that, so i say save your money. (until hd-dvd's come out)
