Is the BIGGEST Secret, still under wraps?

I am about to switch to the MAC...WOOHOO!

I'm very excited. I'm a graphic designer (web & print), and this team change is looooong overdue. About 6 months ago, I figured I'd start off in Mac-land by getting a new Powerbook, and replace my ailing PIV desktop (later on, I'll spring for the PowerMac - when it reaches 3Ghz). I also figured I'd wait till the next PB update.

My problem? Apple is going to give me an ulcer in a major way! I'm beginning to feel like a strung out drug fiend... constantly checking the rumor sites and boards every few hours to find out if anything new has been leaked. My eyes are a permanent bloodshot. On the weekend, I'm outside the local Apple store w/ my puss pressed up against the glass, my tongue waggin' like a tired dog, waiting for the store to open so I can go tease myself a bit more. Shit, I've been there so much I might as well get a job there. They probably know me by name at this point. Apple, I can't wait anymore!!! WHAT's IT GONNA BE?

This is the conclusion I'm coming to. Yes, I've read 'ad- nausium' that the PB's have been reinvented every other January, and 2005 is the magic January, yada yada yada. But then all I hear about is the PB's getting a 1.67Mhz bump or maybe, maaaaaybe if you rub your lucky rabbit's foot real good, we'll get a 1.8Ghz.

I really believe that Apple will time the release of a G5 PB w/ Tiger. But to be honest, I'd be a happy switcher w/ no less than a 1.8Ghz G4, a 256mb video option, and increased screen res. Why would they wait 9 months to release a .17Ghz improvement? Stalling?

Does anyone have any news? The real deal on the PB update must be locked down tighter than Jenna Haze. It seems to be the ONLY thing nobody can confirm. Either Steve's keynote is gonna be Peter North "HUGE," or it's gonna be a total bust w/ iLife, iWork and a headless iMac (oh joy).

What do you think?

Help me keep the faith people!

No one knows really. But it is a fact that in those last 9 months there were no new processors available fot the Powerbooks. What we have now is the 7447B at 1.67 GHz maximum (sorry, I don't remember the link). It is quite possible that Apple will update the Powerbooks with this processor, at a maximum clock speed perhaps a little higher than the one publicly known. Now the question is: will this happen during this MWSF or later in January/February?

I just have this little feeling that Apple is spreading decoy rumors just so that they guarantee that THEY are the ones to tell the world of their new products...

I mean the rumor sites get info... then all of the sudden CNN picks it up... Steve is probably laughing his ass off in his office right now.

sad, what a waste of good bandwidth....

Listen closely, NO ONE KNOWS SQUAT!

That's why there have been no rumor-site stories on PowerBook updates worth a thing. I can only imagine what one of your website clients must be thinking, seeing how you've dropped names of porn stars all over the place. Jeesh. If you need one, get one; else, wait in line like the rest of us.

The two current sleepers are the G5 PM and speed bumps on the PM.

I think we'll see a 2.3 gig PM added and the 1.8 dropped. A PM at 3.0 gigs would be nice, but I look for that at WWDC.

G5 PB? Best guess is at the same time Tiger is released or the WWDC.

Steve J has a lot of things to put on the table on Tuesday - I think the 2.3 PM will be the only new thing in the PM/PB lines.

He doesn't do speed bumps of that nature at these kinds of events anymore.

Wouldn't it be nice? A sock knocking off in the offing.

Unfortunately, it's almost certainly not what's happening.
