Pioneer DVR 105 won't play nice... please help!

This is a duplicate of a thread I put up in the Genius bar. I wasn't having much luck so I thought I'd repost here. Any thoughts on my problem would be appreciated.

Joyfully Christmas morning I unwrapped a Pioneer DVR-A05 for my Quicksilver G4 867. I intalled it quickly but carefully and everything seemed fine and dandy. Both OS X.2 and 9.2 indicated that they recognized it as a superdrive. It plays DVDs with no problem. The problem has 2 symptoms. First when something has been in the drive for awhile it won't eject. I receive an error message which I unfortunatley didn't write down, and then the icon disappears from the desktop, but the media will not eject. From that point on the computer ignores the drive completely, in either OS. It will not mount it, nor eject it until restarted.

The second symptom is for more frustrating. It can't keep stable long enough to burn a DVD. I managed to burn 1.8 gigs of DVD-RW using Roxio Toast, but the built in disc burning software couldn't initialize the blank DVD. When I attempted to burn a 5 minute movie for my niece in iDVD 2 under OS X.2 it reached the burning stage and then became unresponsive 2 minutes before completing stage 4. Since all I have is the DVD-R that came with it I can't try again until some orders come in.

I fear that this may have been caused by Apple. When it booted up it automatically downloaded and installed the Superdrive update for high speed media, which if I'm not mistaken, is meant for the DVR-104. I can't say if this is the case for certain because I never had the opportunity to use it without this firmware update.

This will be the third year in a row that my big wow major cool Christmas gift was a complete and total dud unless someone out there can give me the magic secret to make it all behave itself.

please please please, I'm literally pulling my hair out out here.

DVR-105 isn't supported in 10.2.2. You have to be running 10.2.3 to have DVR-105 support.

little update for all those who are curious. I'm still waiting for my Apple branded blank DVD's to arrive for further testing. I'm running 10.2.3 btw.
