Wireless Network AND Cordless Phones

I'm going to install a wireless network in my house and currently have a VTECH 2.4GHZ phone system with two handsets. I've read that the cordless 2.4GHZ phones will interfere with the wireless network since they both run on the same frequency. So I have been looking at the newer 5.8GHZ models from:

1.) VTECH

2.) Uniden

3.) AT&T

I found out tonight on the web that the VTECH and AT&T models actually transmit on both frequencies (2.4 and 5.8).

Does anybody have the 5.8GHZ models with recommendations or know if all the 2.4GHZ models cause problems or just some of them. Thanks.......

    I have an Airport and a 2.4 phone ....

No problems whatsoever. Interference is a possibility, but I get none.

Both the phone and the Airport have the ability to chose from (10 or 12 ?) several channels within it's band. If you have interference, just make sure each system is on a different channel... separated by at least 4 numbers. In most cases this should fix any problems you might have.

I had some problems with my GE 2.4GHz phone when I first got Airport. The only thing you have to do to get rid of the problem is to change the channel on the phone.

My bang and Olufsen phone which I think is 2.4Ghz has never had a problem what so ever!

what possible advantage does the 2.4 GHz moniker give over the 900MHz ones that most people have?

I mean seriously, it doesn't increase the range, the only thing it does it cause problems with airport....

now they have 5.9 GHz ones too?? <img src="graemlins/oyvey.gif" border="0" alt="[No]" /> another waste of money and resources...

2.4GHz has a higher bandwidth to send more information and therefore a clearer signal. I have noticed it since we replaced our old wireless headset with a newer one. Maybe it was just the new device, but I could hear the conversation better in my back yard. The new 5.9GHz phones do increase range, up to 2 miles in some models.

My 2.4 ghz phone will interfere with 802.11b only when it rings. My 900Mhz phone sounds much better than 2.4 ghz phone probably because everyone has now moved to 2.4ghx or higher! Also, I have a wireless AV repeater (that transmits cable signal from one TV to another). The broadcaster will completely drown out the 802.11b signal if I am in the same room. The receiver does not interfere with wireless data, hwowever.

    I'd say get a good 900mhz phone.

I've had 4 900Mhz phones and 2 2.4Ghz units. The 2.4Ghz phones seem much more clear and they, to me atleast, seem to maintain that clarity at greater distances. I can walk across the street and down a couple houses and still talk on my 2.4, where as all my 900's really crackled and hissed or disconnected as soon as I left my yard.

The other piece that I like about the 2.4 phones is the ability to have multiple handsets. I have seen the ability to have two handsets with 900 phones but I need the ability to have 4.

Has anyone purchased the newer 5.8 with comments on performance and sharing airwaves with Airport?

My 2.4GHz phones have been great but also I've had incredible range with some V Tech 900MHz phones. One time I walked all the way down my block while talking on the phone and it was still really clear and everything. I was totally shocked.
