Pioneer DVR-105 Working With iDVD 2.0 Inside 500 MHz Blue & White G3 But Not With 2.1

B&W G3 with 10.2.3 Pioneer DVR-105 as Master with 1999 DVD-RAM as Slave on the same optical bus.

I bought a pair of Tin Snips and hacked both into the B&W after cutting and bending a lot of metal. Both drives working great. Except 105 can't read DVD-RAM written single sided media although my Cube's DVD-ROM player reads those same DVD-RAMs just fine. Anyway . . .

iDVD 2.0 works just fine. Ran 2.1 updater and then 2.1 at launch says "iDVD could not be opened because the required hardware could not be found". Anybody know the work around or does 2.1 require G4 or what?

Someone mentioned about having to reinstall the system but I never ran iDVD before on this system. The biggest addition to 2.1 seems to have been the ability to burn a hybrid disk that will have a DVD-rom section with data for computer use instead of just a staright video disc. It also said scripting and burning improvements.

Do I have to take the DVD-ROM off this bus or what? Is it about the G3 vs. a G4 or what?

Thanks in advance.

iDVD is only meant to be used on a G4. That maybe your problem.

I have a DVD-Reader and CD-Burner on the same bus in my G4 400 (PC -&gt; Mac case mod), and the CD-Burner only works in Master, and DVD Player.app doesn't work with the DVD-Reader in Slave. But the Finder reads DVDs fine, as does VLC, QuickTime (with MPEG2 codec) etc etc.

So bus issues can be a problem. Even in the DDR G4s, you can only order a SuperDrive for the top bay.

If you never ran into any of those problems mentioned, go back to 2.0. I only upgrade if I have problems with software or need the new features. But everything works.

This has probably been asked before, but can anyone absolutely confirm that if I buy the DVR-105 and replace the DVD-RAM in my G4 450 AGP and purchase iLife, iDVD will work? <img src="confused.gif" border="0">

If you are in 10.2.3 (or 4 by then probably) with QT 6.1, I can absolutely confirm that when you buy the DVR-105, available until 1.25 at OfficeMax for $220 after $50 mail in rebate, and replace your DVD-RAM in your G4 450 AGP and purchase iLife on Saturday January 25, 2003 that iDVD3 will work slowly but beautifully. Absolutely. I confirm. For Sure. No doubt. Yes!

10.2.3 supports the DVR-105. It says so in the update notes. We already have people who have done this. It works. No prob.

How can you not be sure? Not a Mac expert? I am.
