Hello all,

I hm hoping for a speed bump in the PB 15 inch model and am wondering if any current PB 1.5 owners can let me know how many software insturment tracks I can expect to play back with out issue?

Also, does playing back from a firewire drive improve performance in the above scenario.

Please advise.

This all depends on what the instruments are. Standard GB intruments are not as processor intensive as some third party audio units. Also depends on how many effects you have applied to the instruments. I have a 1.2Ghz iBook and it can handle about 8 tracks of software instruments with effects before it dies. GarageBand is not a great package in terms of processor usage, the trick is to render your tracks to aiff files via the 'export to itunes' option.

As for the question on external firewire drive, this would not make any difference. Its your processor and RAM being overload by the software instruments not your hard disk. The only time you may need a faster external drive is if you are using lots and lots of loops.
