Replacing CD drive in white dual USB iBook

I recently bought a G3 500 iBook. It only came with a CD drive, so I bought a combo drive to upgrade it. Little did I know that iBooks are ridiculous to take apart. I found this page which details taking the iBook apart, but wanted to see if anyone knew if all of those steps were necessary. I realize the overclocking isn't, of course, but is it necessary to remove the palm rest to get to replace the CD drive?



Overall I'm competent with this sort of thing, just have no prior experience with notebooks and wanted a second opinion before I dive in.
