As you may have seen, I recently had a HD failure on a firewire drive with ALL of my iTunes music (from many sources) on it.

I tried moving the HD to a different bridge/firewire case and it still reads as needing to be innitialized

are their ways of recovering my DATA

I tried Diskwarrior and it was the only Utility that at least read the name of the volume . . . but it would do nothing after that . .

Are their professional data recovery services that will be able to access the contents of this drive?

anybody have any ideas . . . . any

please respond . . . if even to say SOOL (shit out of luck)

Drivesavers is the one people like. The problem is that a data recovery service is going to charge you through the nose. Seriously. You're looking at probably $1000 or more, depending on how much data you lost.

The name escapes me, but what's that service that will do a free online scan of a bad HD? It was able to reconstruct long lost directories on a bad HD I had, not too long ago. They charge for a per GB recovered basis, but this may be a cost alternative to the traditional $1000 job when you send it to a lab.

I was just surprised it was able to see these directories, when all other volume recovery processes at my disposal were simply unable to see anything but a drive ready for initialization. I never went through with "buying" recovered GB's, but you may find this service useful.

EDIT: VirtualLab software, perhaps? That's sounds familiar to me...

Wiebetech sells something called Recovery ComboDock - basically a firewire/usb dock for the drive plus data recovery software.

I've been thinking about getting the Recovery Notebook Drive Dock for my long dead PowerBook drive.

    Good luck!

I know this may sound odd, but a friend had issues with his drive. It may or may not help, but I'll post the info anyways. This was from his talked to an Apple tech. he had taken the drive out ready to ship to data recovery and spend mega bucks.

"He asked me to put the drive back in, then boot off a Panther install CD and see if it showed up when you selected "Erase" from the tabs at the top of the window in Disk Utility. I shrugged and said, "ok" cuz I already "looked" for it via Disk Utility's First Aid tab and saw nothing.

Boot to CD and whaddayaknow, there's my friggin drive and all the crap on it! Ran First Aid twice and here we are, clacking away"

It may not work, but hey it can't hurt.

It took me a while because I had to buy a 300Gig drive to dump the recovered files to . . . but, a good excuse to get another HD!

You can use some professional and reliable data recovery software for recovering the deleted music files from your hard drive. Stellar Phoenix Mac data recovery, Data Rescue X and Disk Drill are some few good names in the data recovery industry.

But, both of them cost around $100.
