PocektMac (Pro or Lite) or Missing Sync?

My girlfriend recently won a Pocket PC (iPaq) and I'm currently urging her to get a Mac Mini. I need to find the best syncing software so she doesn't have anything to complain about (and she's a real complainer).

I've checked on Version Tracker and the customer reviews are completely useless. It seems there's an idiotic rivalry going on between the two products and it's impossible to tell which comments are genuine.

I want to know from any users here whether they have any experience with these two products. How is their experience with:

1. Syncing with Address Book?

2. Syncing with iCal?

3. Syncing with Mail?

4. Syncing with Entourage?

5. Adding software to Pocket PC?

Do recurring events sync correctly with any combination of software?

Is there a problem with duplicate events?

Is there a problem with lost data?

Any comments would help. I need to sell her that Mac (and I've offered to pay for half of it -- but she's really stubborn)!

Thanks,

tonton

I'd personally go with Missing Sync. I use their PalmOS product and I love it. Does an excellent job.

Haven't tried their PocketPC version, but if it's half as good as the PalmOS one, it's fantastic.

Agreed, Missing Sync is the way to go, I used it with my IPaq for a year. Worked flawless, actually better then Active Sync but that probably doesn't come as any big surprise.

    1. I switched to Mac for its ease of use, simplicity and lack of hassles

    2. I use missing synch for essentially the same reason(s)

    3. My advise is to get a girlfriend that doesn't complain.

Follow these three pieces of advise and live life happily!

    cheers!

I just bought the Missing Synch. Is there some sort of special doo dad rain dance that I have to do on a full moon to get this thing to work? It won't do squat for me at all. I'm trying to connect my Samsung i700 to my new G5 iMac.

That's a PocketPC/WindowsMobile device right? if you got the version for WinMob, you should just be able to run it. I use the PalmOS version, so I can't help you out there much. You might want to email Mark/Space about it if you're really stuck.

How difficult is it to install software to the pocketPC through missing sync? How does it handle the windows .exe files that are required to install?

I am a new PowerMac user and loved my Axim X50V. I purchased PocketMac Pro 3.5 about a week ago. After synching, I get kernel panics periodically afterwards. I requested a refund from them and sold my Axim yesterday to a co-worker. I picked up a Palm Tungsten T5 which works must better with a Mac.

I will miss my Axim but I would rather sacrafice my PDA than my new PowerMac. I have heard lack of support problems for both companies. That was one of the factors that made me decide to go back to Palm.

It depends. If those are just self-extracting archives, you should be able to open them with Stuffit Expander. If they're actual Windows installer apps, you won't be able to do anything with them on your Mac.

Missing Sync for PocketPC can install any .cab files you get onto your handheld, from what I understand.
