The Screen Savers on Tech TV just showed off the new 17" Powerbook in detail.

Its even cooler looking than I thought from the still pictures I've seen, its really very elegant.

And it shows the area around the keyboard is big enough to support a cup holder!

i would not want to use that, i personally slide my fingers around the keyboard while playing games and i can see that being kinda rubbery and my fingers catching, also I dont knwo that it would feel natural with one on...a condome for the keyboard, i'd rather go unprotected

Well, if not a cup of coffee, it is certainly big eneough to have allowed a numeric keypad beside the main keyboard. Puzzled as to why they left that out.

This has been touched upon on another thread, but I personally like the symetrical layout. A keypad would throw it off center and not a very natural extension of the screen which is directly in front of you.

I've seen some PC laptops where the trackpad is off to one side as well, and that's not very comfortable either.

I agree that it's not very good for the sudden twitch movements of your fingers you need when gaming, but it's good for typing or for other general usage. The "stickyness" of the silicone is annoying, but it actually subsides after a few good washings. I really recommend it to anyone with a late model Ti or iBook. When I'm eating and drinking while working on your laptop (as I do often), it gives me some peace of mind--that and I'm amazed at the amount of crud this thing stops from getting into your keyboard.

One minor but good improvement with the new Powerbooks is the trackpad.

You'll notice that it doesn't have that extra lip around the trackpad presently found on the 15" model.

It's cleaner and just like the iBook. I've always been bothered by that lip, thinking it was the edge of the actual trackpad.

Not only do the sides make great drink holders... but the new AlBook sports dual-beverage temperature-management. It keeps the cold side cold and the hot side hot.

No more cold coffee for lapzilla users.
