hi there

in order to get the 128 bits bus on the imac G5, is it mandatory to have 2 strictly identical ram ?

or same size is enough ?

because i ordered 512 Mo on 1 slot for my BTO imac

and will add 512 Mo later this week

would i benefit from 128 bits bus ?

thx

It actually even goes beyond that!

A memory DIMM has lots of memory chips (I.C.s) on it, to get a 512 DIMM you can use 16 32 MB chips, 8 64 MB chips or 4 128 MB chips. If you got two 512 MB DIMMs with the same latency, but one had 16 32 MB chips and the other had 8 64 MB chips, these would not give you the 128 bit bus.

It is best to buy a matched pair of RAM DIMMS. Manufacturers such a corsair sell DIMMS in matched pairs.
