This is so weird....

Installed the airport express card, it get´s recognized by the powerbook. The software says 3.4.2b. This has happened :

My network is . G4 Cube with airport. iMac indigo with airport. ibook g3 with airport. Everything is happy. Everything is on the internet.

My pBook G4 is not. Once I managed to be on the internet for a couple of minutes, then it disappeared for good. The distance is 2 meters.

Also, I plugged in another airport basestation, which gets recognized by all the others, except my pBook. What can it be ? Very very frustrating !

download airport 4.1 from softaware update. Or the airport only allows a certain amount of computers on one network?

    hmm.

Usually, only the G4 Cube is on. And again, I have been on the internet for a couple of minutes. Once or twice. I will download ver4.1 and give it a try

BTW. I am not using an Airport Basestation from the adsl modem.

Does this PB work wirelessly elsewhere? It could be some sort of hardware problem with the PB; airport card not fully seated, antenna cable not fully seated, antenna wire pinched internally. How many bars do you see in the airport icon on the menu bar?

Try it further away from the basestation - if you are too close the receiver might get overloaded.

    Hmm

I got inspired today and I created a mac-to-mac network with the PowerBook. When I go to my indigo iMac, the indigo sees the network and connects to it. Though I don´t get to do anything (?) with it, clearly the airport-express card in the powerbook isn´t dead.

BTW, the network is based on 802.11.b can that be a problem ?

    thanks for all hints

As neutrino23 says, it may be a hardware issue.

It is very important that when you install the express card, the antenna cable is connected with a definite click.

    [hello again]

still with no connectiosn to the network, on sunday 6feb my pBook got trapped in kernel panics. Again and again and again.

I reformatted my pBook but to no avail. I then removed the airport card and now, it is humming along smoothly.

Obviously, this has been a hardware problem all along. It will be returned.

    Thanks for all inputs !
