Switching to IMAC 17"...questions?

Posted:
in Current Mac Hardware edited January 2014
Since most of my work on computers involves Excel, Word, and Internet with heavy dose of mult-tasking, been told that IMAC 17 with 1G Ram should be adequate (currently have Dell P3 800). Also back-up using Direct CD, play music, and record music CD's.

After comparing HP and Mac at local CompUSA store, no comparison as to quality but cost about $700 more for IMAC 17 due to SW and some hardware.

Three questions:

How do I enhance sound or are the Apple pro speakers adequate? Maybe could use my current speakers (analog not USB) by connecting thru Sonica External USB Audio Upgrade?

Will need faster CD-RW...appears 2 are best value...LaCie and Fantom? Any suggestions?

Will I need SW such as MacLink Plus since I backup all files on Direct CD (packet writing) using Roxio?

Thanks

wait... good things come to those who wait. The iMac will not be appreciably faster than your p3 800 in Office and it might actually be slower on the internet (though Safari will eventually adress this)

The apple speakers aren't bad. Not the best out there but adequate. Especially if you add an iSub. Gives you the bass the speakers lack.
