ive got a iBook but it backlight has gone, but the screen still works ok.
Is there any way of repairing this or will i need a complete new screen
any help would be great thanks!
You can replace the lamp. They're relatively cheap. But it's pretty hard to solder it in there. There are a bunch of sites that show you how (I googled it when my clamshell lamp quit on me...not hard to find).
If you want to remove the whole display, they sell those all over ebay. Here's how (follow the instructions backwards...
My sisters iBook-500 looks like it is having similar problems, if I at the screen in the right light I can just about make out the desktop and stuff so the display is still sort of functioning. How do I find out if the backlight itself has gone or whether it is a fault in the ribbon cable (a common fault I believe)?
The iBook was bought off eBay and she doesn't have applecare, my sister wants to know if it is worth repairing or should she just connect an external screen until she can afford a replacement?
