Several German Mac shops report that a new AirPort card will be intro'ed on January 30th, replacing the current one and enhancing compatibility to AirPort Extreme base stations.
Any evidence? Should I wait until end of January with buying an AirPort (11 MBit) card for my iBook?

They might have done odd solution for the PowerBook 17 because the of lack of internal space, but there should be no such reason for them not to go the usual way for Power Macs, iMacs and eMacs. Ample of room for a PCCard.
Hoping for an update!!
Yes you shoud wait. I think its really strange for Apple not to release AirPort Extreme-cards to older Macs. there's no technical reason not to

That may not be true. Several people claim to know that the old AirPort slot does not carry 54 MBit properly.
Perhaps enhanced compatibility means a card supporting more than 11Mbps, but not the full 54Mbps.
