iPod Classic: Flash player + Hard Drive
I'm sure I'm not the first to note this, but after tripping and falling onto my iPod I now have a glitch in the screen where a small group of pixels display inverted.
Finding any weak excuse to open the case, I eventually discovered that it's quite possible to use the iPod (3G,10GB) without a Hard Drive attached.
I wasn't foolhardy enough to try and pull up a song that wouldn't be loaded into RAM, but I could browse the notes that I had open, and listen to the current track without reconnecting the HD.
I contrast this to a Mac computer which just stalls if you disconnect its boot drive while awake. (It continued without a hiccup when the drive was reconnected. And for the reference it was an external drive - I wasn't stupid enough to take out the internal one while powered up and running.)
So, for all those people who wanted a flash iPod, we actually had it all along.
