Heya

I've got my mac mini networked to my pc which i use as the host. Problem is, i'm using msn on the mac and i can't send files using file transfer. I get the following message:

"We could not send this file because the connection is blocked. Please contact your network administrator or Internet service provider; they may be able to enable file transfers."

Does anyone know how i can get around this? I know it has something to do with the ip address that the network has assigned to the mac and that a remote computer can't connect to it. Any ides?

Thanks in advance.

Why don't you get a router? It will eliminate a lot of hassles like the one you have now.

Because i only got the mac a couple of days ago and i was eager to see it working on a network. It's been 2 days and this is the only problem i've had so far, i don't know if it's worth buying a router just so i can complete file transfers on msn. You can't suggest any other way of getting around the problem? I seem to be able to complete file transfers just fine using skype, i think that has an entirely different way of doing it though.

    Cheers anyway mate.

My guess is the Unix ports required by MSN are closed in your present configuration. The ports required by Skype are open. You would do better to use your Mac to access the Internet and to share its connection with Windows. You would do best to use a router to access the Internet and connect your Mac and Windows machine to the router as equals. Using a router, you can access the Internet with your Mac or Windows machine without having to run both machines at the same time.
