as the title says-- I love this machine. I just got it friday afternoon. What a cool computer, G5, 20", superdrive, thick this, nasty that, it's so much fun to open a new apple computer and fire it up.

Getting it is what suddenly became so easy. I thought I would have to drive 300 miles to get one, or order it online since there is no Apple store within 150 mile from here. Luckily I found a reseller in the classified ads of the newspaper two miles from my home. I called them up and they said there also is a regional distribution center located in town and they can have it for me within 1 hour. Hooray!!!

I was surprised that Apple products are so available around here since there is no Apple store within 2 hours drive. They were able to get me iWorks too.

BTW, iLife 5 came with the iMac as a drop in package.

set up was painless with the set up assistant. I followed the instructions and target disked my 867 quicksilver, it transfered my files and I was off and running. The only thing I need now is more ram. I am used to a gig in my old computer, and the stock 256 just doesn't cut it.

Anyways, I can't seem to wipe teh grin off my face. Apple always makes me smile.

Cheers, Randy

my 12 year old son is now in heaven too since he inherited the 867 QS. His old 450 imac was a little long in the tooth for him.

I too got a new 20" Imac G5, I gave my old 17" Imac G4 to the wife.

I ordered a 1gig(2x512) upgrade from 18004 memory for about $132, installed it, this thing flies, great screen too. did the same hooked up to old imac, and imported all the apps and users, only things that wouldnt import were microsoft mouse driver, and the missing sync for my pda.

the fan really only gets going during processor intense stuff, and it doesn't bother me at all. But if you read my first post you'll see i was used to a quicksilver with 2 HD, running all the time as a server. I also have tinnitus like a mofo from playing in bands for 25 years. the loud, high pitched ringing in my ears woulkd drive a lesser man crazy. Those fscking drum cymbals are a bi@tch.

the two things iWish would have transfered was my "date added" in iTunes and my song ratings. I was off work for 6 months after shoulder surgery and being bored as hell I rated all my songs (over 4000), and I like to keep a few playlists as date added so I can easily find my newest music. now they all say 2/11/05 which is teh sux.

My machine doesnt really have bad fan noise, you can here it slightly(I have it set to highest on cpu, not automatic) and its fine. the ONLY time I have heard this thing really loud, is when I was using the Hardware Test CD, the fans were cranking and it felt like a hurricane under the imac, but even then, it sounded about as loud as when I would put in a cd/dvd in my old imacg4 at first(owners of that machine will know what I am talkin about, makes lots of noise at first).

my date added and ratings transferred fine.. strange.. I was suprised it transferred my 'shared' users folder since thats where I store my music, since during the copy it stated it was only copying the actual users(and listed them by name)
