Hi,

I've just recieved my new iMac, and on the third day of having it I've run in to a problem. I was working away when the bluetooth keyboard lost its connection, since then I haven't been able to re-establish the connection, I've rebooted and now can't even log in.

Any suggestions, other than buy a wired keyboard?

Thanks in advance

Have to tried to delete it from the pairings list in the pref pane, and then attempt to pair the two from scratch?

No, because I can't log in - I guess I can try and borrow a USB keyboard.

    Thanks

Sorry I hadn't made that clear - other things on my mind...

I've just been chatting to an apple support agent and they've suggested the same thing - I'm off to find a USB keyboard!

Did you try replacing the batteries?

this wont help now but in future don't log off - go to system preferences and click bluetooth. Or go keyboard and mouse and then click the bluetooth tab.

I just read on a PC forum someone turned their Mac mini on for the first time and apparently it said "You don't have any USB peripherals, I'll check for bluetooth ones" or something to that effect. Have you got a wired mouse? Maybe if you unplug it it will do the same thing for you?

(PS I have a PowerBook so am working off others' knowledge )

    Thanks for all the replies.

Changing the batteries was the first thing I tried, I'm pretty convinced that I need to de-pair/re-pair the keyboard and everything will be fine.

I've been thinking about it and buying a cheap USB keyboard is probably a good plan, in case of dead batteries etc.

Nice idea, but it won't work. As the keyboard and mouse (also BT) have already been paired to the iMac it knows they should be out there somewhere.

I realised pretty quickly after logging out that I'd messed up, oh well...

    Thanks again everyone!!

I simply followed danielctull's instructions - deleted the pairing and recreated one!
