Styling in safari

Sorry if this is in the wrong part of the forum.
I'm having trouble styling a horizontal rule in safari, the site I'm playing around with is a basketball club website.
I'm attempting to style the hr's red using:
hr { margin-bottom: 1em; width: 70%; color: #900; background-color: #900;}
which works in both IE and firefox but does not color the rule in safari. Any ideas how I can fix this?
