Are new PowerMacs quieter?
I saw a few posts that mentioned that the new powerMacs are quieter than the previous dual processor vacuum cleaners. Is this true for sure? I would be interested in getting the single processor 1 Ghz PM, but only when the next model comes out and it drops to a more reasonable price. $1500 is no bargain, Apple. Get with the program!..............................

Well according to Apple they are.

I must have missed that. Where did they mention it?............................................... ..

[quote]The noise level was one of the biggest complaints many customers had with the previous generation Power Macs. According to Apple, this problem has been fixed and customers will be happy with the results of the work put into correcting this issue.
"We worked really hard and went over the systems to find every possible way to make the system quieter," said Tom Boger, Director, Power Mac Product Marketing. "I'm happy to tell you that we've done that -- when the systems get out in the marketplace, I'm sure our customers are going to be delighted at how quiet these systems are."
"They are significantly quieter -- these will answer the critics," added Joswiak.

Unless the critic is someone who plunked down a few grand last month and is stuck with a loud machine.
I can't wait to hear a new one... was a major complaint of my dual GHz MDD tower. I had to put it to sleep in my office or it bothered the hell out of us down the hall at the kitchen table.

I can't wait to not hear a new one...
Both my 1 and 1.25 MDDs seem to to be as quit as my HP C3700 or ULTRA 5 in normal fan mode.
They do occasionally go into turbo mode, but only for a very short time and only a few times a day.

Can you tell us how much the noise improvement on them is?
I'm desperate to buy one but not before I know for sure they are quieter.... hopefully substantially quieter....
Stores aren't the best to test something like that.
Didn't sound loud to me though.
Guys, anyone out there seen or bought a new MDD yet?

I think I'm heading over to the mall in a little while. I'll stop by the Apple Store and I'll check.

I did go to the mall, but I didn't have a chance to stop in there. I'll go sometime this week though and I'll post.

I first set up a new Power Mac monday, and I didn't notice any difference in noise. But then, I didn't mind the noise of the older Power Macs.

Despite the fact that my iMac is fanless, the whine of the hard drive keeps it from being "silent". I have read a lot of complaints about how noisy the MDD units are - and I don't want to upgrade to something that's louder.
