M-Audio sound card / Keeping digital output live?
I've got a M-Audio Revolution 7.1 installed in my powermac. It sounds absolutely phenomenal. I could rave about this thing forever.
Except... I have a huge problem when using it's coax digital output in conjunction with my digital speakers. (Cambridge Soundworks Megaworks 250D) If the Mac isn't playing any sound, the Megaworks amplifier turns off. Or at least that's my theory because there is an audible click when it turns back on again to play a sound. The click is extremely noticable and happens whenever silence is broken.
This is most noticeable in programs or web pages where mousning over a button is accompanied by a sound. The sound is always preceded by a click unless there is music or something already playing in the background.
Somewhere along the line, an audible on/off click is being produced. I'm trying to figure out if this is a problem with the speaker set, the sound card, or with OS X.
Any theories?

However, I have my card hooked up to through the five analog cables, so this may be a different problem than yours.
