Help! I thought I would be able to copy my current iPod songs onto my new computer. Is it me or is this impossible? Can anyone help me fiqure this out? Thanks guys!
There are free ways of doing this, such as the method suggested above by Qchem. However, all these solutions only copy the files and therefore information which is stored in the iTunes database file (such as play count and song rating) is not duplicated. Rebuilding your iTunes library can be somewhat time consuming.
By far the best solution I have found is podworks which IMHO is well worth the tiny $8 shareware fee.
Apple intentionally made it difficult to move songs iPod->computer as a sop to the record labels. If it were easy, it would be a breeze for you and all your friends to have an iPod party and trade all of your music in matter of minutes. That would be nice, but Apple had to do what they had to do to get the labels to sign off. The best solution for you is to copy your iTunes library from your old computer to your new one, directly.
Thanks for you help guys! What if I just imported my music again to my new computer.... could I wipe off my old library from my iPod?
Alright, i have a FREE SOLUTION. download the application called Cocktail, and when you open it up, then you can check of this box that says "show hidden files". Then, drag all the songs that know show up in the iPod disk into iTunes, and their you go.

Other programs let you select what you want to copy by various criteria. iPodRip (the shareware one I've been using unregistered for a year) works fine, podworks (mentioned above) seems good too.
I have 2 Macs... why the f8ck can't I sync one iPod with both of them?
Wankers
Man I totally agree this iTunes to iPod relationship is getting more ridiculous with every generation. My non Apple branded ARCHOS with its (iTunes Plug-in) can sync with any iTunes regardless of the name of the user on that machine. It's more Mac like then Apples own offering. DRM sucks, good for nobody except for RIA executives.

Well, I quite like the iTMS and it never would have happened without DRM. Apple has to keep the record companies on side.
I don't particularly like DRM, but unfortunately, people of my generation (I'm 24) have demonstrated (through original Napster / kazaa etc.) that they can't be trusted: DRM is what we get as a result.

Oh don't get me wrong I like iTMS too, it's my favorite MP3 player. I'm just frustrated with lack of convenience in syncing multiple iPods on one machine.
Do you mean each Mac has a different library of music on it? If so, you can set one mac to auto sync and the other to manually sync.
If, on the other hand, you mean that you want to be able to use your iPod to ensure both Macs have the same library, either use podworks or a network.
I mean: I want to maintain ONE library on two different Macs. But I also want to make damn sure that it keeps my ratings and play count, etc.
I also want to be reassured that when one day I will get a new computer I can transfer said info to the new computer. Aside from physically transferring via network. Im also think in case my Mac were to get stolen or whatnot...

If you're comfortable with cli,
cp -R /Volumes/[iPod name]/iPod_Control/Music/* ~/Music/iPod
Then add the dir ~/Music/iPod into itunes

Im half way through rating 4000MP3s and I'm gonna stop cold turkey if there is no way that I can transfer this info to a future new computer!!!
